What makes fireclay actually different

Fireclay starts as a refractory blend of kaolin, ball clay, and German chamotte, minerals and grog that survive the kiln long after porcelain has cracked. We fire ours at 1,250°C for over 20 hours.
The resulting body is denser than any cast sink, with a vitreous glaze that is chemically bonded, not painted on. That bond is what shrugs off citric acid, red wine, and the daily knock of a cast-iron pan.
Cast iron sinks, by contrast, rely on an enamel layer that chips. Composite sinks scratch and stain. Fireclay's only real weakness is impact at the rim, which is why every Burly sink ships with a fitted impact frame.
